Work on new athletics track for the 2012 London Olympics completed – Athletics news
Good news for athletics fans and the members of the Olympics organising committee in London in particular, as the athletics track at the London stadium for 2012 Olympics has been completed.
According to news, the track, designed by Mondo, an Italian company, is made up of synthetic rubber and thus, runners can expect to mark a fast time while running on it during the world’s largest athletics event.
The fact that the track will make things easier for runners looking forward to clock fast times can be verified from the fact that back in 2008, Beijing Olympics had also had a similar track, which offered a chance to runners to clock five world records.
With such encouraging conditions for runners, it is hoped that the event will also observe some of the world’s record performances.
While talking about this major achievement, chairman of the London 2012 championships, Lord Coe said, “Today marks a huge milestone for the projects as the stadium comes to life.” It is not just the track, but the entire London stadium, with a capacity of
80,000 seats is near its completion and as per news, the total cost London has born for building the stadium is £ 486 million.
Adding up to his remarks on the stadium, Coe said, “People can get a glimpse of how it will look in less than 10 months’ time when we welcome the world’s athletes to London. There is still a lot of work to do on the stadium but seeing some of our top British
athletes on the track with local schoolchildren really underlines the stadium’s potential for 2012 and beyond.”
Commenting upon the preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games, one of the organisers commented that by having a glimpse of current preparations of the event, one could have a guess of how fabulous would it look when it will be completed. The magnificent stadium
will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the much awaited event, along with the Paralympic Games and track and field events.
