Work out plan for tennis?

im trying to get back in to shape for tennis next year and was wondering what your work out schedules at the gym are like what are some of your suggestions

  1. For cardio workout, I either run or jump ropes.  If I run, I usually run a couple of miles.  If I decide to jump ropes, I usually do a 10 to 15 minutes non stop rope jumps.  10-15 minutes may sound short, but jumping ropes non stop for 10-15 mins is quite a good cardio workout.  Try it out for twice a week.

    Also, do some weight training that will strengthen your arm and shoulder.  Start with light weight and increase the weight a little at a time as your muscles build up.  Good luck and have fun :)


  2. I'd say allot of weight lifting to strengthen your arms definitely. I'd do allot of yoga and pilates, for shaping up the body. The best way to shape up for tennis is just to play allot of sets of tennis, practice hitting balls, forehands and backhands, do it all. If you have a Wii, the Wii sports tennis game is a VERY good workout too, the boxing is great also.
