So far Ive been using whey protein shake as a recovery after a heavy gym session, but the stuff is getting expensive, just wondering is it the same as eating 2 boiled eggs afters, Egg is full of protein but does anyone know a listing of how much protein is in different foods or even a link to a site, cheers

  1. no whole food can supply your body with protein as fast as a whey protein isolate.

But just cause I like you I will give you some of my handy tips from when I was a student.

Use non-fat milk powder drink about 600mls after a workout

Eat about 300gm of cooked pasta(white not whole grain only now , no other time during the day)

This will give you a pump holding, protein/carb boost that'll

only set you back about 50 cents

Eggs have fat in the yolk which slows down the digestive process which is a no no post workout .

    Good luck hope this helps

Also a really good thing is low fat cottage cheese.

The commercial variety has way too much salt

But you can make your own way cheaper and you'll never have to buy glutamine again because c/cheese is about

20% of protein as glutamine which means about 150gms of

c/cheese is 7.5 gm of glutamine

To make your own c/cheese bring one litre of non-fat milk to a gentle boil and add 10ml of white wine vinegar or lemon juice, the milk will curdle into cottage cheese, then just strain through a cheese cloth (or a really clean table cloth)

    and refrigerate.

    I hope this helps

  2. The best people to ask are probably the nutritionists or personal trainers at the gym you work out at.  These guys have a lot of knowledge as building lean muscle is their job.  I have been told that cottage cheese is an excellent source of protein, and things like fish, chicken breast, eggs are all high protein low fat foods.  I have a link as below to a low carb diet website with some of the information you require and I'm sure there are lots more out there.  Good luck with the training.
