I am an Assistant Director of Marketing for a major sports team. We do business at this local sporting good store that helps us promote various games we have throughout our schedule. One of the managers and myself get along very well. I would like to ask her out on a date although I don't have a clue if she is seeing anyone or not. However, I do not want me asking the manager out on a date affect the partnership we have with the store. Our season just ended and I am thinking about going there and asking her out. Is this a good idea? If so how do I ask her out without affecting the business relationship? Thank you any input is appreciated.

  1. Try not making it such an official date.  Stop in for some reason and start talking.  If you are having a good time ask her if she would like to grab coffee sometime or mention that you are doong something with lots of friends at such and such location and maybe she and some friends could drop by?

Optimally, your get together offer will relate to something you are talking about....I don't know, basketball and she's a fan?  We are having a party at such and such and she should stop by with some friends?

Personally, I think that people spend a lot of time at work and that people we work with are likely to be good potential matches.  As long as you do not work too close together if things go bad, I think its reasonable to meet someone through work.

  2. Eeek.  Call me traditional, but I hate mixing romance and work.  Is it really worth risking your job over this girl???  Any outcome for you asking her will affect your relationship - and a bad outcome either now or later can put the partnership at risk.

If you like her that much, at least see if someone else can get assigned to handle that account so there is not a direct conflict of interest.
