I got a job and a huge Coles and im a check out chick there! I used to get heaps of shifts but now im not getting any and its because the manager is young and she plays favourites, and for some reason she hates me and doenst want me to work! I called the union and they said they can get me more shifts but they have to mention my name, so then the manager will know told them, and will start bitching about me if the union does. Would u let the union get u more shifts but then risk every1 talking about u or just leave it?

Thxs for ur answers in advance:)

  1. Call the union, if she gives you anymore grief keep reporting the *****. I cant stand people like that, when the power goes to there heads.

  2. Have you tried talking to her directly?

I'd go to her, non-threateningly, & ask if its possible to be rostered for more shifts.  Explain that when you started, you used to get heaps of shifts & you had the expectation that this would continue & that you were happy with that.  Tell her that now you get so few, its making it hard for you to earn the money you need to get by.  To boost your confidence before going in there, tell yourself that they should be falling over themselves to have a good worker such as yourself wanting to work hard for them.

By approaching her, you've then given her the chance to correct the situation, or explain what's going on.  Then ... if you still don't get more shifts, & you feel that the union is the way to go, you can defend your actions by saying that you tried honest & direct ways to get more shifts, but you were ignored.  Getting the courage to approach her builds important skills that you're ALWAYS going to need in the workplace - courage, communication & honesty.

Getting good staff these days is difficult for a lot of places, & if you're a good worker, & they're smart people ... they'd be crazy to lose you.

    Good luck.

  3. Don't go to the union until you let her know of your plan. If she knows you are going to the union, Coles will like to know her supervisory skills that resulted the union to be informed of their terrible management. Most likely, the high management will like to know why their company is under the union attention and they love to play the blame game, and that will be the young manager who plays favourites!

So if she is smart, she will be a fair manager. If not, just report her. Coles will not keep her anyway, once the union knows about this!

  4. You might as well let the union try to get you more shifts - what do you have to lose?
