Question:

Work - starbucks or american eagle?

I am currently working at American Eagle Outfitters. I have been there for the summer semester as I was not in school. I am going back to school in September and I just got a call from Starbucks asking if I wanted to come in for an interview.

I had originally wanted to work at starbucks but they weren't hiring at the time so I ended up at AE. Now I am wondering if I should quit AE and take the starbucks job?

I don't know which one pays better...AE is only pyaing me $8.50 an hour. Also, I am 22 years old, married, and I have a lot of good working experience in a professional environment. I find working with 15 year olds at AE kind of annoying. Would Starbucks be better?

Thanks :)

  1. I think that you should go for the interview at Starbucks. When you hear back from them if you got the job or not then you make a move. If you quit your job just because you got an interview at starbucks can leave you jobless.I would like to believe that starbucks is a better job because the aging range.

  2. stick with american eagle..

my friend used to work at starbucks...he said it sucked really bad...and the customers just make it worst by being all picky about their orders and what not....

    Reasons:

starbucks- not much of a high pay....most likely a lil bit above minimum wage...and you get a free starbucks drink....woopee.

ae- on the other hand....paid better..discounts on pretty expensive clothing....and your sooner or later your boss might give you a raise or maybe a promotion...

    stick with american eagle!

  3. I'd go for Starbucks.  Better growth potential and benefits, plus you can meet some interesting customers and staff -- more diverse than at AE.

  4. Well without knowing your personality (if you can stand the smell of coffee all day, like small enclosed areas...)

I would say that Starbucks is a much better company to work for especially if you are married.  I read an article about the company and their benefits and they seem to really have a drive to help their employees.   They were also voted into a list of best companies to work for.

But every company has its ups and downs.

  5. I think you should take the job at Starbucks, i do think they make more money then American Eagle is paying and its a range of age groups. AE seems more targeted for the pre-teens and high school kids to be working at cause they really want a discount (not saying you should work their) but i heard Starbucks pays better, and is more flexible with hours. the downside is their open later on weekdays and weekends so if you work night shift you might be ending at 11:30-12

  6. If you've got experience in a professional environment, you might consider moving into the corporate aspect of American Eagle in either Pittsburgh or Canada. Granted, that means moving your family, but it's a great company to work for (as I'm sure you already know).

I have a friend who worked for Starbucks in the field and in corporate. I think she really enjoyed being a barrister, but she moved up to corporate and says the last six months of it stunk. Can't say as I know why, though. And Starbucks is based in Seattle, which is a lot closer to you...

However, from everything I know, they're both good companies, socially responsible. Go to the one that offers the best opportunity of advancement.

  7. It depends if you can get free coffee or if you drink coffee. Also if you like American Eagle clothes. If it was me I would stay at American Eagle, but you should do whatever work you like best. :)

  8. i would say don't quit AE until you know FOR SURE you have the job at starbucks and it pays better.  if not, stay at AE until a better job comes around

  9. american eagle most def.

  10. Go to the interview.  See how much they will pay.  I think they get tips there too.  I know I tip when I go.  Just ask questions about what is important to you when you go to the interview... then you can go from there.

I personally would pick Starbucks, but that's just me.
