I have a part time job at Sears while I am studying. I was offered FWS (Federal Work Study) for the upcoming semester. What I want to know is the advantages of FWS over my current job.

3 Go to class after work study

    4. Get to meet more of the reg staff at school who will give you a good recommendation  after you complete work study and graduate

    5. Must maintain a 2.0 GPA

I do work study in my school now I work in the Financial Aid Office while studying Psychology. Work and school in the same building is awsome

  2. i believe work study is meant to pay for your books etc

  3. The thing about work study is it can be an academically related job in your department whereas Sears is just a retail grunt job.

  4. Your earnings from work study are still considered income for tax purposes, but when you fill out your fafsa for next year, the amount you earn from work study comes off your earnings for that year on Worksheet C.

    Example:

Earned 3000 working part time for sears from Jan -June 08.

Also earned 1000 working work study job from Sept -Dec 08.

When you filled out your fafsa, your total AGI would be 4000 (taken from tax forms).  But on Worksheet C you would list 1000 as Work study income... thus "removing" it as income for calculating how much money you earned when calculating your financial aid for next year.

    Hope it helps.
