Workforce got his bags packed for Japan after retiring
After enjoying his three-year-old career thoroughly, winning the Derby and the Arc, Workforce sort of side lined when it came to boosting his career in the forth coming year. He failed to accomplish the benchmark that he had established before himself and
did not bring in use his actual potential.
The four-year-old colt, owned by Khalid Abdullah, bred by his operations on Juddmonte Farms and trained by Sir Michael Stoute has now been sent to Teruya Yoshida's Shadai Farm in Japan.
"He's going to Shadai Stud in Japan", Abdullah's racing manager, Teddy Grimthorpe said.
"He's been a wonderful horse. To win a Derby and an Arc was pretty exceptional”.
In the short span of time that he raced, Workforce won four out of his nine career starts and was able to amass prize money of £3,200,000. He was a good investment for Prince Khalid Abdullah but lately he was impacting the overall image and reputation adversely.
It did not take Workforce more than an occasion to break his maiden at Goodwood on 23rd September which was very soon followed by a second position in the Totesport Dante Stakes Group 2 on 13th May at York.
Workforce’s most memorable achievement surfaced on 5th June last season when he claimed the Investec Derby at Epsom on a field of twelve participants but some critics do have reservations with the caliber of competition which Workforce encountered
on the track which according to them could have been handled by any other horse too but then Workforce it was, lucky for him!
The Queen Elizabeth Stakes at the Ascot on 24th July saw him positioned fifth, a defeat that Workforce avenged by winning the next two challenges without a break.
On 3rd October it was the Qatar Prix De’LArc De Triomphe Group 1 that he claimed at Longchamp. After a gap of nearly seven months, Workforce posted another victory by claiming the Brigadier Gerard Stakes Group 3 on 26th May this season
at Sandown.
A great start for the new season but nevertheless it could not be maintained as the outcomes of the upcoming races kept deteriorating. Out of the three remaining attempts this season, he came second twice and a miserable twelfth in the last race that he
participated in.
Owing to the diminishing performance that also when he had achieved way more and better before made the connections resolve for a retirement to put a stop to the failures which could easily have grown worse with time.
