I just started. Right now im learning the register (easy so far.) And Friday I will go in from 8am-4pm working in the photo department.

My job is classified under "Certified photo specialist."

Can someone tell me what to expect? What is the most important thing in your opion that I will need to do in order to make this job successful! I would also like to work my way up, eventually move on to pharmacy tech or something. Im starting out at $8.50.

Thank you!

Please give me any little tips...what did you find most difficult when starting out? What do I need to pay the most attention to?

Working in the photo area...please list some tippers...thanks guys.

  1. The photo department equipment is mostly automated, so it is pretty easy to learn.  The best advise I can give you is keep a smile on your face and always make sure your cash drawer is accurate.  Our photo department was used for overflow when the cashiers had long lines.  We also helped a lot with stocking.  I did get a few people who were pissed about their pictures not turning out, but we just didn't charge them.  Good luck!

  2. A friendly smile and attitude is everything, and will help, but really, you need to be looking at more education. A licensed pharmacy tech will probably need more education, unless it's the person ringing up orders - you might talk to one of the pharmacists about jobs involving the pharmacy.

On photo specialist, experiment with the machines and find out which machine does the best with which needs (if that's possible..)

Or talk to the manager (after you have some time in on the job) about back-office work, or other positions with higher pay.

I've met Walgreen's managers who started out where you are; its a good company; the more you help it remain a good company (CLEAN and well organized stores are really important!!) the more you help your own career too.

More education will be very helpful, especially in today's degree-hyped world. Personality Very Important too!

    Good luck!
