Does anyone know how much you have to be earning a year to qualify for working tax, we claim as a couple, but not sure if its worth doing overtime for.

  1. If you don't have children and are aged over 25, then you would get Working Tax Credits if your joint income is below 12,800. if you have at least one child then you would get some tax credits if your joint income is less than 51, 000 pa.

do a calculation using your combined income at:

    http://taxcredits.direct.gov.uk/?cids=Go...

  2. You can apply if between the two of you, you are working 16 hours or more/week.

Unfortunately WTC is based on the previous tax year, when people need the help now.  For example good income last year = no Tax Credit this year.  But you may be on much less income this year, if you follow my meaning.

  3. Have a look at the Inland revenue site - theres a free calculator on there that works out how much you get x*x
