Question:

Working Full Time - Lonely Cat?

by  |  earlier

I have a seven year old cat that I got in high school and brought to college with me. She has always been by herself, but due to my sporadic class schedule I usually got to see her several times a day. I have started working as a kindergarten teacher (first year) and I barely have any time to be at home. I am worried that she is going to become lonely. Would a second cat be a good idea? I really would prefer not to get a second cat at this time (I live in a small apartment that allows only one pet) but I am worried about her. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

  1. Get a second cat .Oh , and if want one  I have some for free

1 girl and 3 boys all fixed and they are two years old .

Very nice , I have question in the cat subject  so stop by if you

    decide you want one .

  2. I work 12-14 hours a day, I had one cat, then got another to keep him company... they were best pals!  Together 12 years, I lost chelsea to an aneurysm... and the surviving cat was really depressed....I thought long and hard and made sure to give him extra, extra love while he was mourning.  I did just get a second cat, when I met her she was so sweet... but she is aggressive towards my older cat... who is now suffering health issues due to stress.

i would first make sure that if you bring in a new cat, they are very compatible as I know living in a one bedroom apartment there is not   of room for them to get away from each other.

Your one cat probably sleeps most of the day so the evenings are attention time anyway....

I have also been evicted from an apartment for keeping more than one pet... now that's stress!!  I am sure you will listen to your heart and make the right choice.  Just be peaceful yourself and your cat will be happy!

  3. Get her some new toys & leave the radio on for her during the day while you are away.  She will get use to the new schedule.  A second cat is a good idea.  That's what I did.  And they are inseparable. I don't feel as bad leaving, because I know they have each other.

  4. A second cat could keep her from being lonely but...it takes a lot of time and patience to introduce cats to each other without problems as they are very territorial. I don't think it's the right solution for you as you wouldn't have the time to do so and just putting them together would just cause your current cat more stress.

  5.   My guess is she sleeps ALOT when you're not around.  It wouldn't be the best idea to intro a 2nd cat right now.  That is a very stressful event! not saying it can't be done, but you are looking for the best for your cat.  Just love on her a bunch when you are around, I believe things will be alright.  Good luck and enjoy your new career!! xoxo to your cat!

  6. I lost 11 pounds in the first weeks of my teaching career.  I couldn't eat or sleep well and felt the children would suffer from my inexperience. It is a stressful time for you - you want everything to go so well.

When I do my Reiki work I say one of the five precepts of that discipline - "Just for today I will not worry".  Try that or any other affirmation you can formulate for yourself.

Your cat will sense your upset.  She does not need another cat (adding to her feelings of adapting to change) and dealing with your discomfiture.

Spend as much quality time with her as you can - that's a great benefit to you and her.

I am not saying that another cat might not be a bad idea and feel it isn't advisable right now when your life is in transition.

You don't want to add to your stress by disobeying the restrictions of your living situation and get both you and the cat "evicted".

Look to your cat for comfort and reassurance in this time of personal life change.  Talk to her about all your problems and insecurities and take advice from her example of peace and rest.  Each day is a challenge for you and an opportunity to grow and handle problems on a daily basis.  Take your lead from her - she lives in the moment and is relaxed and happy.
