Question:

Working Holiday in Brisbane?

Hi, I am traveling to Brisbane sometime next week to start my working holiday visa, and am in a ditch about which hostel to stay, and their location in terms of convenience, etc. Is anyone familiar with the location? I have 'Manly', and 'New Farm' to choose from. Which would you say is the best location to have easy access to fruit picking jobs and transportations, etc?

  1. New Farm is probaby more convenient, as it's closer to the city, but I don't think it has a train station (Manly does). It has plenty of buses, though, and the ferry.

But neither are particularly close to any fruit picking that I am aware of. You'll probaby be travelling for at least an hour for fruit picking. I am on the far Northside, and I know there are these kinds of jobs in Narangba and Caboolture, possibly parts of Deception Bay (the more rural areas). Most of the fruit picking is on the Sunshine Coast, a bit further north of me, Nambour would probably be a good base for that (but it's a smaller town, I think it's nearly two hours (on the train at least) away from Brisbane).

But, I don't know much about Manly or that area, maybe there are some fruit-picking opportunities around there that I'm unaware of.

    Good luck :-)
