I have an Italian passport (I was born and live in Australia), and wish to find work in Italy, what must I do as soon as I arrive in Rome to have all the valid documents to work. I already have a codice fiscale.

Thank you.

  1. you need to go to your local "municipio" area office to register that you live there and get a "carta d'identità"  (you will need documents proving that you live there, like renting contract)

carta d'identità and codice fiscale are the only documents that you need, if you get a job you will do the papers with your employer.

  2. Just go to the local Anagrafe and register your residence; then look for a job. Once you've found one then you can register with all the rigmarole (INPS, INAIL etc.). Your new employer will help you with the procedures.

The main problem for any Italian, whether he always lived in Italy or not, is finding "suitable" employment. There is quite a crisis at present, specially for young people. I'm afraid you'll have to adapt.

    best of luck.

ps Alex's info are correct, you get all that at the Anagrafe, even if you're not Italian.

  3. I would check in with the American Embassy who will surely give you all the papers you need to b legal to work
