Working at Tesco's???

Why do companies like tesco's and adsa's advertise for staff, then when you apply within 2 days you get a letter back saying you were unsucessful?

My daughter recently applied for both firms and got told no thank you, and yet the stores she applied in are still advertising. She has shop experience as well, so I know it would be because she is inexperienced.

  1. They're looking for the right person I guess, I know its depressing when even Tesco won't hire you, but maybe she is overqualified?  Or perhaps they have to have the right 'equal opportunities' balance and her skin is the wrong colour or she's the wrong age?  Or maybe her CV needs some work?  Just reassure her, tell her to keep her chin up!

  2. A lot of this is age, previous experience will be highly preferred and first impressions

  3. Because they make it look like they're employing from the community but in reality they've got Eastern European agency staff waiting. Just a publicity stunt with them.

  4. That happened to my daughter, she was turned down by Tesco and Sainsburys without even an interview and she is shop experienced.

I think they may be looking for certain age groups at a certain time or something like that, wish I knew!

  5. I dont know and this has nothing to do with your question but i thought i would just tell you...

My mum just left to get some shopping from tesco!!. :)

  6. Before they even look at any experience etc. (Tesco, unsure about Asda) they will check the answer to the questions you have  answered in the application form.  The answers you give earn a different amount of points based against a chance; if you don't score a set minimum then you will not get an interview, nothing else matters.  The questions are designed to check you are suitable to work at Tesco, and will fit in with the team and the mentality they have.  So if she so quickly gets rejected, with no interview, then it is likely she is not scoring high enough in this test.

  7. I would take it further I do know at interview you can get a post mortom to see where you went wrong its so soul destroying and puts the young people off?see about it and say she wants to know why she is unsuccessful showing her assertiveness might say they want her to join and be part of the team ?tell her not to get too down and keep trying .

  8. my mum works for tesco. my sister has tried for a job in two stores i think twice each but they kept saying no.something to do with not filling application form in with correct answers.well thats what they said

  9. go in and chat to them personally or ring in head office HR dept. They are ALWAYS looking for honest reliable staff.

  10. You should prompt her to ask Tescos for feedback on her application.

  11. MABYE THEY JUST DIDNT LIKE HER!!!!!
