  1. Volunteer means WORK FOR FREE.

Pet shelters don't pay 99% of their work force.

So don't look for money from this.

  2. You could volunteer at a shelter but you can't get paid. Shelters are non-profit and don't pay, but they do appreciate the help.

If you want work ask your vet if you could clean out cages and whatever, but you need to be 16 to do that I believe.

  3. Normally you won't make any money at an animal shelter since it's all volunteer work. So don't expect payment in money, but in feeling good about doing something for the animals =]

Also, usually animal shelters will take in any normal household pets (rodents, birds, reptiles, etc.); however, I'm not sure about exotic pets. From my experience, usually they'll send those animals to nearby pet stores like Petco and sell them from there. The adoptable rodents/reptiles/etc. are usually cheaper than the other animals and will also come with cages and such (usually).

Overall it's rewarding, but it's also hard work. And many places will only higher people 16+ or even 18+ for liability reasons.

  4. most pet shelters only take people 16 and up so u would have to wait like another 2 years to do that. I wanted to volunteer at Paws in Georgia but im not eligible.

  5. .Volunteers don't get paid because there volunteering.

  6. Volunteering means you don't make money.

Some shelters will take volunteers under 16.  You have to ask.

Look for different kinds of shelters on www.petfinder.com.  There are some that are limited to cats and a few that do birds and exotics.
