I am a civil engineer from India holding a three years Diploma in Civil Engineering. I have got 22 years of experience in Construction & Infrastructure field in India with 20 years in Government Sector (having resigned as an Assistant Engineer (Civil) and two years as a free lance consultant.

Now I have been offered a Job in Dubai with a Monthly salary of UAE Dh 9000 plus Bachelors' accomodation + Transport.

My query is:

1. Is the pay packet offered matching the industry standards for my profile? If not, what should I bargain for?

2. What is the standard of the Bachelors' accommodation normally provided by the Companies? Is it Single or shared?

3. Is the said salary enough for one person to live and save some money in Dubai?

4. What are the working conditions and status of Civil Engineering Diploma holders having good experience in the industry? What is the designation normally offered and the roles assigned?

5.What other terms & conditions should I ask to be mentioned in my Contract?

  1. Don't worry,it is quite good as a diploma holder. However, i can brief it as bellow:

    1.yes.

    2.Shared.

    3.Yes.

    4.Not bad.

5.moving to another job later on.

    MF

    Project Manager.

  2. 1) The package is good but not best. You can bargain for a package of AED 12000 + Accommodation + Food + Transportation + Medical + Return Ticket

    2) If bachelor accommodation, you should ask for single status, not shared. Most of the construction companies will provide portacabin accommodations in work sites.

3)The said salary is enough for you to live and save something, because you are provided accommodation and it is the only most costly item here... And all other income together will be a max of 2000 AED per month, as you are also provided transportation

    4) If you have good experience and commanding power, you can have much progress in career of construction industry. The designation will depends on the experience and company standards only, at least you will get a designation of Senior Engineer or Senior Site Superintendent or Some Managerial Positions like Project Manager (Then this salary is not enough)

    5) The terms and conditions are purely depends on the company. you may ask for your basic should be on contract as said or final negotiated higher amount, visa should be same as of engineer, contract should mentions salary + accommodation + transportation etc., it should mention the working hours and all other related matters. The agreement between you and company shall be mention the leave cycle and ticket details. The ticket should be from your nearest airport (return) etc...

    Hope this will help you

    Best of Luck

    Thx

  3. You have almost proper answers above, all what I wish to say is that while counting your xprnc., the salary offered is not that great.
