Question:

Working for AFLAC insurance company?

The first interview I had out of college a few years ago was with AFLAC insurance company for a sales position. My degree is in a GIS related field, and I declined the 2nd interview because I wanted to find something in my field of study.

A couple of years later, I've found myself laid off and no new job opportunities in the GIS/geography field. The problem is, I'm recently married and just bought a house. To gain another position in the GIS field with only a couple years experience means I have to start off at the bottom. I was recently passed over for an opportunity for a recent college grad because they (the company) could get away with paying them $10/hour.

After hearing a few accounts of friends of friends who worked for AFLAC, it sounds like a good idea at this point. I like the freedom I'd be able to have, and the recurring commissions sounds great. Any advice any of you insurance sales people might be able to give would be appreciated. What do you think of AFLAC?

  1. AFLAC is a well respected organization. But you are limited in what you can sell; life and health.

Why not look into companies like American National, Liberty Mutual, Erie Insurance, Nationwide, Allstate, and State Farm? (Not in any particular order).  These are all multi-line companies.

The more opportunities you have to write insurance, the more $$ you will earn.
