Does anyone know the following:

Is car mileage taxable and therefore affects National Insurannce Payments? Also broadband and telephone calls?? The fact that these are essential tools to do the job they should not be but my new company say there are taxbable and Ive never had this problem before in previous jobs of the same nature.... Personally I dont think they know what there doing...

Any help would be great!

  1. Yes, certain benefits are taxable, but if the sums you are talking about are reimbursements of legitimate business expenses, then they are not subject to tax, provided you are contractually obliged to work from home.

  2. Tax and national insurance are totally different.

If you receive any perks, gifts ect from your employer like a company car, petrol money, your phone bill paid for you ,a mobile phone, broadband etc then they are taxable.
