  2. hub = distrubutes incoming data to all ports, works at OSI layer 1

    switch = only sends data to the port that it needs to go to, works at OSI layer 2

    router = connects two network segments together such as WAN and LAN. can use two different ethernet framd types, workes at OSI layer 3
