  1. There are too many questions to answer all at once, but the important ones are those relating to getting started.

You can start studying any time you like but I'd recommend waiting until you're ready to actually start training - regulations change and books get updated. You'll probably be required to have the most up-to-date and could end up having to buy books you already have!

Before you decide which school to attend, check out your local airlines for scholarship deals.

Emirates has an ab-initio Pilot Program for Emirates Nationals. See the link below - this would probably be your best bet!

If you are not a national, check other airlines for similar deals.

You don't HAVE to have any degree to fly, although it helps with some airlines, but remember that aviation is a constantly fluctuating job market and pilots are getting laid off and rehired constantly.  A good degree will certainly help as a back-up in these times, the subject is not important - do what interests you.

As to whether airline or commercial flying is best, your answer will be differant with every pilot you ask. Airlines (particularly smaller Regional ones), are notorious for furloughing (laying off) crews, whereas charter companies would be more reliable employers - but do you want to be sat at home waiting for a call to go to the airport at any time of night or day (which you could get with charter), or do you prefer a regular schedule and knowing everyday in advance when you have to fly (airlines)?

If you decide to pay for your own training, start researching flight schools online. DO NOT pick one that asks for all your money up front!

Some offer very good airline oriented courses including crew resourch management and even turbo-prop and/or some jet time. These tend to be much more expensive but often have guarantees of an airline interview (NOT A JOB!) at the end and could save you years of struggle later!

You may want to use the second link below to help you get started. (For schools in the USA only)

    Good luck!
