Question:

Working in the UAE. Is this a scam?

I have seen that in the UAE, they are paying top dollar for engineers to come over to Dubai for 2 or 3 years on contract and they will receive about $200,000 a year tax free. For some reason, this feels like a scam and I don't feel good about it. My dad is an engineer and he has applied for it. They haven't responded yet. Has anybody heard about people posting jobs for work in the middle east and it being a scam/trick of some sort? It's all over the net. Thanks!

  1. scam on scam is so big you can not believe what is next!

  2. It is a scam...

These things almost ALWAYS are... you hear about them all them time, but the countries change periodically.

Please, if it is too good to be true... most likely it is.

If you want to work in the UAE, while they do have good pay there, you should contact REAL companies there and ask about employment opportunities.

But, they are far from desperate for employees and one has to be extremely qualified for a "free" trip there.

    Tax free... lol

  3. There are job scam outfits around but that one doesn't immediately shout scam. I don't know anything about the employment agency that advertised on that website but I didn't find anything obvious to raise alarms.

The job is not immediate though. The UAE is looking at nuclear power as an option but I don't know what the time frame is.

The amount of money offered seems high but then maybe that's the going rate for engineers on a nuclear power plant?

If they ask for money (visa fees, processing, whatever), then it's a good sign that it's some sort of scam.

  4. Email the state department and ask them

  5. I'd be suspicious--there are a lot of excellent legitimate jobs available there, though.

  6. Unless there has been some change to the tax code (which could be, it's been a few years since I qualified for this), you may only exclude the first $80,000 of your Foreign Earned Income (IRS Form 2555).

Although the $$$ sound good, equally import is the benefits and support package.  For instance, does it include housing, utilities and paid air travel for your "re-pat" vacation?  Does it include travel for medical emergencies (you don't want to be treated there), provisions for either licensing or a car/driver, private schooling or tuition reimbursement for children's education?  Also (if important to you) a private use alcohol license for your home may be an option (not sure about UAE specifically, but some countries in the region allow it for foreigners).

As for it being a "scam", well that's certainly a possibility.  Your best bet would be to consult the embassy in UAE and see if the specific company you are considering has a favorable track record.

  7. I can only suggest u to visit a real job site....
