Working in the city from NJ?

How bad is the commute from central jersey to manhattan for work? Would you suggest using public transportation or driving? About how much do you rack up in transportation expenses each month?

If you worked an 8-5 job... what time would you leave in the morning and what time would you get home?

thanks :)

  1. If your screen name is where you will be commuting from (Short Hills) the train is much more convenient.  Only about 40 minutes to Penn Station, and it'll be cheaper than garage parking and tunnel tolls.  I used to live in South Orange and the NJ Transit service was usually pretty reliable.  Check njtransit.com for fares.  You'll probably be gone from about 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. depending on the exact train schedule.

  2. both stink

NJ Transit is getting worse by the day. check NJ.com and see the link for tranist.

car traffic and tolls are another killer.

8-5 is hard on your body as both methods will kill you in five years.

Move out west like I did and be happy.
