Working moms, do you ever get tired of seeing half of your paycheck go?

before you even get it? It seems a real shame to work so hard and sacrifice so much and then to have half your paycheck taken away before you ever get it. It's especially hard for those of us who are single working moms. I am looking at my paycheck stub and I'm just feeling discouraged......I work hard, and then the government takes half of it from me. It's like punishment for working your a** off.

Do you ever feel so disgusted that you want to just throw in the towel and go on medicaid, wic, welfare, and get subsidized housing?

  1. No, part of being a good parent, is being a good role model.  You dont want to be a hypocrite when you tell your child to take care of a pet, when you are not fully taking care of your child.

  2. Like the person above said, if they are literally taking half of your paycheck then you need to take legal action cause they aren't supposed to take that much.  But if you are just exaggerating to make a point then I wouldn't suggest just giving up... That's one of the worst things you could possibly do.  Maybe look for another way to earn some extra income.  My mother has been a single mother to my brother and I since we were 6 and 8 years old, we are now 18 and 20 and she also had to go back to school because her degree was no good.  She has a lot of investments and stock options that earn her a lot of money so maybe look into that.

  3. they take half of it from you??? the maximum should only be 20%. if their taking half, then yeah you are getting screwed.

if you really need the help, then whats wrong with going on wic? it's government funded, it doesn't come from anyone elce's pocket. where i live a family of four can make up to $3,800/ month and still be on it. and if you qualify for medicaid then just take it! it's not like you aren't working your butt off as you stated that you do.

  4. I used to get frustrated but what can you do? I thank God for having a good paying job so that I can support my child. By the time they take out taxes, union dues, health insurance, life insurance...it is a bit much. Learn how to get back as much as possible. Itemize your taxes. Don't get disgusted. Medicaid, wic...that is not how you want to live. I personally, like my standard of living and will NEVER live a lifestyle of dependence upon others while I sit back and do little of nothing. If you want to use the system only do so to better yourself, such as seeking a grant so that you can go to school (if you haven't done so already) and get a better paying job. Keep your head up...its hard for single moms but children are blessing so be a good steward over your children and your finances!

  5. I think you're doing an awesome job by being a good role model to your kids.  I'm sure someday they'll appreciate your work

I think if you are working hard and truly trying then there would be nothing wrong with you getting help from WIC or medicaid...

I think the keyword is that you are trying and that you're not sitting around being lazy so nobody would have the right to look down on you for getting help from the government

The government shouldn't being taking more than half your check...
