I heard from someone that after you work out, your breast milks goes sour or tastes different to your baby?

This is true? Anyone have any experiences here?

I'm only 25 weeks, but i plan on losing this baby weight quickly after the baby is born and want some advice on this matter.

Thanks!

  1. They are referring to the lactic acid that is in your muscles after a workout.  Very small amounts may wind up in your breastmilk, but unless you work out an incredible amount and you have a fussy baby, it won't be a problem.

  2. yes it is true. but if you just wait 1/2 to an hour after being active it will go back. when my first child was 6 weeks old i went back to work as a waitress just 2 nights for just 5 hours each shift. as soon as i got home i always wanted to fed him as my b***s were sore..lol. and every single time he would throw it right up. after a few months of this i was like why? so i asked my doctor and she said it goes sour but just wait like an hour and it the taste will go back to normal. i cant remember why it does go sour but im sure you can look it up on the internet.

  3. lactic acid is released from your muscles when you work out, and small amounts may find their way to your breastmilk, making it taste sour (although it is not "sour" in the sense that it has gone bad, it just might taste funny).  After a normal, moderate workout, there is no need to wait to breastfeed.  If you are exercising strenuously you may want to wait 1/2 hour to and hour after working out to breastfeed, but this will be up to your baby, some are very sensitive to taste changes, some babies could care less.  There is no medical need to refrain from breastfeeding after exercise, even if lactic acid is present in the breastmilk it is not dangerous to your child, it's just an issue of taste.

As a side note, if you are exercizing VERY strenuously (think running marathons or training for the olympics) you may have issues with milk supply.

  4. Never heard of this...but breastfeeding is a great way to lose weight. I lost 40 pounds in a month from breastfeeding, basically all the weight i gained when i was pregnant.
