Ive been on Ei for a couple months and recently got a new job part time. I was wondering if anyone could tell me how EI will find out if Im working? My employer hasnt asked me for my SIN number, or any personal information, so will EI find out im working if my personall info isnt submitted to the govt?

  1. If your employer doesn't withhold taxes, ie, you're working an illegal job, then they won't find out.  But you won't be able to use that job for workers comp or any other EI benefits.

If they are withholding taxes, they will find out.

Plus, you're talking about STEALING, ya know, which, well, is a sin, and not nice.  I'm sure you know the difference between right and wrong.  Do the right thing.

  2. You are allowed to work part time on a limited basis and still collect unemployment insurance.  The payment is just reduced somewhat based on the amount you work.

I'd be concerned about your new employer and what he's apparently trying to do on an unreported basis.  That could put you into some real hot water, so think about this carefully before you continue.

  3. How can your work without a social security number?

That is how unemployment finds out you are working.
