Question:

Working with acrylic plastic (Perspex)...?

I am working more and more with small sheets of acrylic plastic, usually less than 1m in length say, and 5mm thick. Can you recommend some good tools for cutting and smoothing the edges quickly? I am presently using a bench-mounted tile cutting saw which is ok but I tend to sand the edges by hand then use wire wool and finish with a polish off...but its rather time-consuming. Thanks

This gives other data re Perspex:

Various methods are suited to polishing the edges but if you don't want to fork out on a machine, cut with a saw that gives best quaity saw cut, sand with wet n dry paper, start rough going down to say 1000 grit, then try some car polish to finish it off.

A diamond polisher gives the best edge at a cost.

flame polishing is cheaper with a reasonable edge

Buff polishing is cheapest, you could get one ex B & Q, but you will still need some sanding etc to prepare edge before polishing.
