Workout Regimen for Upcoming Kickboxing Tournament?

I am going to be in the Wisconsin Rumble, coming up here on March 8th, however I have zero experience in kickboxing!

I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for a workout regimen. I figure for now I am going to the gym 5 days a week, and this is my workout for now:

30 minutes on treadmill, incline of anywhere from 0-11, plus 6 minute cool-down

Then, all of the equipment, I figure I will do as many reps as I can of the highest weight setting I can do, then reduce weight and do as many reps as I can, then reduce weight and do as many reps as I can and so on and so forth. Basically, 20 reps of 80 lbs, 18 reps of 70 lbs, 15 reps of 60 lbs and so on until it does not feel productive anymore. Then, increase either the reps or the weight by 5% each day I go. The fight is Saturday, and I will do my last workout on Wednesday, so that I am not sore for the fight. Any Advice?

  1. You are getting a basic conditioning workout, but no training for kickboxing itself?  I'd be careful about starting with the heaviest weights you can handle.  That's good for muscle mass but not for the flexibility you need in boxing or kickboxing.  But unless this tournament is for raw beginners, you are making a big mistake to enter for it without knowing any techniques.  And another raw beginner might have no fight experience but plenty of specific training, so even that doesn't guarantee being equal.  Your plan sounds very dangerous.

  2. why are you entering a fight without any experience? you should have been training in kickboxing for a while before even thinking of entering a fight. find a gym and start sparing quickly
