  1. I was going to be sarcastic, and say beer pong, but I think you are looking for a sincere answer.

I am in terrible shape, I am fifty five, twenty-five pounds overweight,  I can still surf. As peak season approaches(that is the water gets warm enough to surf without rubber in the northeast) I go back to the gym. I walk (I used to run, but that's really tough now, although my hips don't hurt too bad this year) I do lots of dumbbell-benches, seated military presses, dead lifts and squats. For speed and flexibility, I do squat thrusts, and sometimes mountain climbers. The more I work out, the better I do in the water. What you really need is explosive paddling speed on the take-off, an instinctive, one motion, stand-up and good trunk/leg strength for control while riding. Once upon a time, I ran five-six miles a day, and that is absolutely the best workout, if you blend in some upper body calisthenics or weight lifting. Now, that being, said, go surfing, being in the water is the best exercise

  2. Get swimming in the pool or beach, I have been swimming heaps lately and it helps alot getting out in big conditions.

  3. Try THE WAVE. It will help you off season and its tons of fun dude.

  4. Do lots of sit ups because when we surf we strengthen the c**p out of our backs and shoulders. If you don't compensate by doing lots of ab-work than you become unbalanced and can damage your spine. Also a strong core is key for surfing.

Strengthing your legs is also important for balance. The best way to that is probably skating a lot. Skate as much as you can especially vert.

Yoga or stretching a lot is key also, for obvious reasons (balance, flexibility, injury prevention).

your arms and shoulders will take care of themselves once you start paddling again, but I find that lifting weights does give you more stamina and power.

  5. try a longboard skateboard. they are just like surfing.....smooth, fast and carve really nicee

i know this really isnt a "workout" but it still gets you ready for surfing.

  6. pushups

  7. work on legs and abbs

and uhh if u wanna improve on ur carves i would go carving on a longboard of wave baord i know thats what im gunna do.

also to snap harder chek out this site its all about how the board can help u do it

  8. strength doesn't mean jack unless you have technique. sure you can get your strength out of the water, but technique only in the water and maybe from some pro tips.
