  1. The line of the articles belies the entire point of the piece..'I just want to be with my new babies and care for them while I am still able.'

The Mum may be old & its certainly questionable whats shes done & especially her reaon for it...but i have no doubt she loves her little girl. Yes, in India, boys are valued more & girls are viewed as burden mostly bcos of the dowry system still prevailent in the rural areas. But tho' parents deem the birth of a girl as cumbersome bcos of the financial implications, once they're born they are loved & cared for...Omkari says 'I just want to be with my new babies and care for them while I am still able.'

Methinks the media has embroidered this story greatly.

  2. Brilliant idea - keep on having children into your 70's because your culture prefers male children.

No wonder the bloody third world is overpopulated!

Isn't it time these people were dragged out of the stone age?

  3. well at least they got a boy now, to keep the circle going.

  4. that definately not good! those kids will grow to be 4 or 5 and then have no mom stupid lady

  5. I don't think it should of...

The child isnt going to have a life with the mother!

  6. I actually feel sorry for the boy. His parents have such unreaslistically high expectations for him that he will not be able to live up to. I predict that he will be a major disappointment to the family.

  7. Ok,it seems like it wasn't a clever choice financially, but there are the 2 daughters who can take care of the children after the parents die,so they won't be left alone.

But I think it is wrong to judge those people by our own western standards. They are shaped by their culture,,just like we are, they can't help that.I suppose our western christian ethics would look ridiculous to them too.

I suppose a line can be drawn somewhere, but I can't simply call them inhuman and end the matter there.

  8. No

  9. No, most certainly not. It is my view that IVF should only be available to women who cannot conceive, it should be available to everyone without cost and only for one pregnancy.

It is heartbreaking for women who are desperate to have a child and can't afford the cost of IVF. Every one should have the chance to have a child if they want one.

To think this woman already has many children and grandchildren and she is 70, what about all these young couples just waiting for their chance?

  10. I am 54 years old, I have 6 children, my oldest son is 33, I have twin sons who are 16 and triplets that are 4 years old. I had the triplets when I was 50, they were not planned, no fertility, I thought I was going thru menopause and found out I was pregnant.  I can not believe a woman at 70 would have a baby....I am lucky that we can afford to have a nanny and a housekeeper, because I am an attorney and work full time...I can not believe someone would have a baby at 70 years old....Im a young 54 and so is my husband, we are very healthy and active, but it is still a lot of work

  11. from the point of view of my culture this is ridiculous.  However, it may be considered the right thing to do in another culture.  It seems strange to me.  They will not live to raise the boy,   they do not want the girl.  Was it really done for the boy to inherit property?  why? seems they don't have much to worry about.  The problem from my point of view is sexism.  Let the daughters be  equal and let them inherit.  Will probably take many generations.  Change does not happen overnite.

  12. 'Takes all sorts to make a world.  You can bet that by the time the story has done the round of newspaper and TV rights, they won't be short of cash!!

Was it to gain son, are to earn a buck?!!

  13. No, never.

  14. its just ewwwwww

    stupid woman

  15. Nope,

    Just unfair on the twins

  16. what should not be allowed is the mother's (and general) disgust over the gift of a daughter.

if i were king of the world, i would take every female from their unwanted place in society and make a nation of strong, powerful females.  let the men in those societies see how life really is without those unwanted, unvalued females.

i'm literally sickened by the matter of fact way the girl child is dimissed.

  17. Are YOU Volunteering to tell Her She can't do it?- & What are you going to say when She tells you to "mind your OWN business.."? It's not up to Us to judge the Actions of Others- unless we are willing to be told what to do- Ourselves... This is the way the World IS.

  18. nope i mean the childs mother will most likely die whilst he is still small and thats a HEAVY burden on a child trust me and even if she doesnt how embarressing would it be to have a mum who is old enough to be your great grandmother?

  19. Wow I think not, especially because she is probably going to disown her daughter!

  20. She should be sentenced to death.

  21. Who are we to decide.

  22. i doubt the kids will have an objection to thier own excistence.

  23. it wasn't smart... shes gonna die before they get a chance to grow up with her. its her business although it's kind of selfish.

  24. They're now near destitute and living on family handouts.

Looks like they've handed the poor little mite a noose for his neck along with all their debts.

  25. everyone has the right to have children...

Nobody, not anybody, should be denied the right to have a child, regardless of age, gender, race etc..

    except peadophiles...

  26. That is not right. Not right at all. NO no no no no. How dare she basicaly resent her own daughter. no no no no no. not right

  27. No, but only because she regards her daughter as a burden.  If she loved both children equally and had never had the chance to have children, it would be a different story, but they are clearly ungrateful for the blessing of children they have been given.
