Possibly the worst natural disaster in terms of human deaths during known history was the explosion of the volcano Krakatoa.

In addition to the explosion itself the explosion generated huge Tsunamis that devastated the islands all around it.  These were much larger than the Christmas Tsunamis of a couple years ago.

EDIT... Yes the 1913 Yellow River Flood death toll is 2-4 million. The 1887 Yellow River Flood death toll was 900,000 to 2 million.

The Sumatra Tsunami was only 285,000.
