World Champ John Higgins takes necessary measures to defend his title: 2012 Welsh Open
Ruling World Snooker Champion, Scotland’s John Higgins has not been able to perform up to his standards in the current snooker season after he clinched the World Snooker Championship in May last year. One of Higgins’ noticeable wins was the 2011 Welsh Open,
where he triumphed after beating compatriot Stephen Maguire by the score line of 9-6 in the final encounter.
The Scotsman was all over the news in the previous season due to his impressive performance as he overawed the top guns of snooker winning a couple of major tournaments including the 2011 Welsh Open. The Scot is now getting ready to defend his title with
all his strength and is practising very hard. The Wizard of Wishaw believes that he will change the assumptions about his game in the upcoming Welsh Open.
One thing that the 36-year-old regrets is that he has no snooker table at his home like Graeme Dott, Stephen Maguire and Stephen Hendry. However, the Lanarkshire potter is planning to soon install a snooker table in his house.
Speaking to the media, Higgins said, “I'd always felt in the past that I wanted to go to the club to practise, as if I was going to work. But the likes of Graeme Dott, Stephen Maguire and Stephen Hendry all have tables at home so I feel now as if I should
have one as well.”
The World Number three added, “I don't practise as hard as I used to when I was young. But that could change soon because I'm having a snooker room built at my house. It would be great if we had an academy in Scotland where we could all play together, but
there isn't anything like that at the moment.”
The qualifying session for the 2012 Welsh Open snooker event will commence soon at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The four-time World Snooker Champion is looking forward to lift the first major title of the current season. So far, the Scottish cueman
has not won any major event except a couple of minor ones.
