World Championships: US, Russia, Finland & Czech Republic win as France thrashed again-NHL News
The French ice hockey team continues to receive thrashing in the ongoing World Championships, being hosted by Sweden and Finland, simultaneously.
France’s 1-7 loss Finland on Thursday, May 10, 2012, was another defeat the team suffered with the huge margin of five to six goals.
They opened their campaign with the 2-7 loss against the United States on Friday, May 04, and then went on to lose another game with the same score (2-7) against Canada, earlier this week.
Finland were able to easily humble the French side and scored freely against the less effective defence.
Obviously, the French were unable to find an answer to their opposition’s attack and could manage to end the game with only a single consolatory goal.
Finland will now face Team Canada on Friday, May 11. Team Canada has already beaten all their opponents in the group except for the US.
Meanwhile, Team USA continued its winning run by overpowering Belarus, 5-3.
Belarus played the game competitively and were neck-to-neck in the score with the US, at one point.
The goal from centre, Nate Thompson, who represents Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League (NHL), helped the US team to break out of the tie and secure a win at the end.
Paul Stastny, Justin Abdelkader, Bobby Ryan and Cam Atkinson scored a goal each, helping Team USA to progress through in their group.
Goaltender, Jimmy Howard’s 23 saves in front of the net, also helped the US victory chances.
Although Belarus were able to put on strong show during initial phase of the game, they could not stand against the late comeback from Team USA.
For Belarus, Yevgeni Kovyrshin, Alexei Ugarov and Alexei Kalyuzhny scored a goal each.
In Group B, Russia was able to beat Norway with the final score 3-1, while Czech Republic registered a win with the same score against Latvia.
The win has helped Russia to tie with Sweden. Both sides have 4 points each in the group.
