World Cup 2010: France v South Africa half time report

France 0 South Africa 2

France’s shocking World Cup campaign is ending with a whimper against a rampant South Africa at the Free State Stadium in Bloemfontein.

The French are 2-0 down and down to 10 men at half time, after yet another awful performance.

Centre back Bongani Khumalo gave the hosts the lead, rising to head in a Siphiwe Tshabalala cross after goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had come for a corner and missed.

Yoann Gourcuff has seen red for the French, receiving his marching orders for appearing to elbow MacBeth Sibaya in the face, despite replays showing that it was probably accidental.

If France thought that was the worst that it could get, then they were to be mistaken, and it wasn’t long before Katego Mphela scrambled in a Tsepo Masilela cross following yet more shocking French defending, particularly from Gael Clichy.

Mphela has also had a goal disallowed, and things only look like getting worse for Raymond Domenech and his men.
