World Cup 2010: Is it time to sack Fabio Capello, who has to take a large share of the responsibility for England's failure

England’s Head Coach will soon find out if he can cling on to his six million pounds a year job, after having just played such a disheartening and distasteful campaign in the World Cup, South Africa. It is speculated that Fabio Capello will be given a decision in two weeks time.

Capello held talks with the Club England chairman Sir David Richards on Monday because of the outcome of the last match with Germany. However, Fabio Capello has made it clear that he wants to continue being the coach of the England team, even after this tarnish on his managerial record with leading England to its heaviest World Cup defeat.

The Premier League chairman and the Football Association Vice Chairman Richards said that he will take stock of the situation before he contacts Capello again. The coach in fact did nothing wrong when he saw the English team coming into the finals and having nine wins out of ten matches and this includes the double over with Croatia.

Capello is no longer the master of his own fate; he must wait for an FA official to tell him whether he will retain the thankless task of restoring the country's faith in a shattered team. His contract stated that he need to renegotiate after the World Cup finals and then take charge of the English team for the 2012 European Championships.

In just a matter of a few weeks, this dynamic coach deteriorated from field marshal, to a meagre castoff. The two weeks time frame is likely to stretch longer, which will inevitably result to a tussle between lawyers over the £12m he is entitled to in a contract that still has two years to go. Fabio Capello defended himself when asked about his salary and his unsatisfactory performance in the World Cup. He said that these matters directly concern the people who give him the money and who were in charge of inducting of him and it is not the value of money but value of the man.

Bevington has asked the overall complete record of Capello after replacing Steve McClaren since 2007. It is not Capello who sets his own salary and he has defiantly set an outstanding record qualifying the team for the World Cup. He said that all of us are very disappointed in leaving the World Cup so early in the competition. Rooney, Lampard, Terry, Steven Gerrard; none of them were able to replicate the power and ambition of good football performance expected from experience players.

England hired Capello as the Coach when they were on the floor even having failed to qualify for the European Championships in 2008. Capello did restore some confidence in the team by winning such successive matches in the qualifications but no one can deny England’s under achievement in South Africa.
England cruised through their groups but had to settle with being runner ups to the Americans. England was very clearly second best against Germany even after the controversy of Frank Lampard, the fact is Lampard's shot was a goal. The decision on the incompetent referee’s part, however, was obviously and inarguably incorrect.

However, it has been reported that after the game several of England’s players indicated that they did not want Capello to remain as coach. The Capello model is bust and it is widely being felt, that no longer can the football fraternity tolerate the days of big salaries for zilch results.
