stadium which is a brand new edition to international cricket venues in the pearl island.
The hosts were off to a good start as openers Upul Tharanga and Tilkaratne Dilshan took advantage of some loose bowling by the inexperienced opponents; however the partnership was broken when Tharanga was run out after a misunderstanding with Dilshan.
The left handed Tharanga scored 19 runs off 31 balls striking 1 four in his innings. Dilshan who is regarded as one of the most fearsome strikers of the ball at the top of the innings was the next to go, he fell immediately after reaching his 50. The right
hander was caught by John Davison off http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rizwan-Cheema-c2328; he struck 8 fours in his innings.
After his demise the experienced batting duo of Mahela Jayawardene and Kumar Sangakkara carried the brunt of the batting, the two stalwarts were at ease despite Jayawardene surviving two confident appeals for caught behind. The Sri Lankan batsmen kept accumulating
runs at a quick pace making life difficult for the Canadians.
Jayawardene went on to post another classy 100, however he was dismissed soon after. His century came off a mere 81 balls that included 9 fours and 1 six.
Before him Sangakkara fell to a poor shot, the ball stopped on him as he tried to force it away offering a simple return catch to John Davison, his innings was studded with 7 fours and 1 six.
Sangakkara was rather unfortunate to miss out on his hundred by six runs. Following his dismissal Angelo Mathews and Thilan Samarawera propelled the total to an imposing 332/7, setting the Canadians a tough task of scoring at 6.66 runs per over.
For the Canadians John Davison and Harvir Baidwan chipped in with 2 wickets each, meanwhile a packed crowd cheered the Sri Lankans for their valiant effort against the minnows.
