British Prime Minister David Cameron and one of the most famous footballers David Beckham teamed up to lessen the damage caused by the Panorama investigation. Beckham and Prince William joined the campaign, as an initiative to
back the bid, after BBC exposed the corruption in international football. Beckham, Prime Minister Cameron and Prince William are one – voiced to grab the opportunity. Despite concerns and allegations made on FIFA officials, David Beckham is pretty hopeful
for England to host the World Cup 2018. These allegations were raised in a TV show with results that may cause delegates to avoid voting for England.
In the TV program aired on Monday, Panorama told the program host that 3 out of 22 FIFA members, who are going to take part in the bidding process, had taken bribes during the 90s. it was also exposed that Jack Warner (FIFA ex-vice
president) had purchased World Cup tickets to sell touts. After meeting President Blatter, David Cameron had a 30 minute meeting with Sepp Baltter who’s the key figure for England’s hopes to beat Russia, Holland/Belgium and Spain/Portugal.
David Beckham expressed that he and David Cameron had put a bid to host the World Cup 2018. He, further said, “Me, Prime Minister David Cameron, the 2018 World Cup bid’s President David Dein and other FIFA officials sat down with
Blatter (FIFA president). Panorama issue was one of the most talked about issues and it was discussed with Blatter and other members of the team. We made clear to him that England is a sport loving nation. We have our media behind us and we are quite positive
about sports and its growth on our country. It could be so big in our country and President Blatter is pretty aware of the fact.”
It was quite inevitable that FIFA Vice President Hayatou will change his decision to support England but Issa Hayatou also declared his support and emotional relations with England as the host of the World Cup.
David Cameron has used Beckham and Prince William for marketing purposes. Beckham also played a successful role in 2005 in Singapore to secure the Olympics for London. He also started lobbying before the 2012 Olympics voting, with
the partner members. He said, “It’s a fact that Prime Minister’s early presence will make a difference and it’s a big statement to have a Prime Minister and us striving for our country. When I visited Singapore with Tony Blair, it was a big plunge for us which
will do the same here.”
