World Cup Champion’s Spain: Journey to Victory
Finally, the biggest tournament of the year has come to an end with all the excitement culminating at Soccer City, Johannesburg. A few days back, Paul the Octopus has already announced his verdict where the Spanish men had to win. After the thrills and spills, Spain came out on top as the new world leader of football.
Despite of the controversies and issues with the Spanish team, it is still not futile to say that the Spanish men have fought and they have fought well throughout the tournament. Some considered the Spanish team lucky, some considered them not fit for the cup but in the end, it was Spain who conquered South Africa. Spain has won the cup for the first time and it was a very well deserving victory for them. It is like a dream come true for Spain. They have made history and people witnessed the history in its creation. The Spanish team rocked the world when they fought with the Dutchmen in their navy blue kit. It was a very nerve wrecking, tense and dreadful game to watch. The match was full of rough challenges, kicking; falling, stopping and yellow cards were awarded to many Dutch players. But Spain stood strong and waited for the right moment. In the end, it was the Spanish midfielder Iniesta who made the first and the only goal of the match in the 117th minute of the match which led the Spanish men to victory in the biggest tournament of the last 4 years.
The path to glory for Spain was very difficult as they worked very hard by hammering all the bigger names of the game. From the first round, Spain was a special team. But despite their success at the 2008 European Championship along with the favorites tag, the team had a long way to go. They had to compete with teams like Chile, Honduras and Switzerland. The champions thrashed Switzerland by 1-0 and Honduras by 2-0 to make a comfortable place in their group. However, the team still needed one more win and they did just that by defeating Chile in a tough match by 2-1.
Spain now had to compete with even bigger names in the top sixteen stages. The Spanish squad did well and qualified for the quarter-finals as an unbeaten team. Beating football giants Portugal by 1-0 was not an easy task but they did well and powered through to the quarter-finals. Paraguay and Spain went head-to-head in the next round. According to experts, South American football teams were never easy to beat due to their never-say-die spirit in football. Despite that, Spain made their way into the semi-finals after a furious battle of football by winning the match against Portugal 1-0. In the semi-finals, they were probably aware of the fact that the German team was the strongest contender for the trophy. Spain outclassed the German giants with ease as they were only one step away from the most prestigious trophy in world soccer. The Spanish played their last game against the Netherlands with their heart, spirit and team work.
World Cup glory suddenly fell in their lap as Spain became the strongest team in football without any doubt. History has been written and the world’s biggest event of football has come to an end. The Spanish squad has done its job superbly and it’s the time to celebrate. A deserving world champion team deserves all the admiration and well wishes from around the globe.
