World Cup hopes for Mohammad Yousuf and Sohail Tanvir still alive
When it finally seemed as if Mohammad Yousuf and Sohail Tanvir had lost their last chance to make it to the upcoming Cricket World Cup, destiny has again given them a chance to get a shot at the world tournament because of International Cricket Council’s
extension in the final date for the thirty-man squad.
Earlier, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board (PCB) had requested ICC to extend the final date to submit the names of the thirty probables before the World Cup. The reason for PCB’s request is the fact that the board is facing a selection dilemma because a few important
and experienced Pakistani players have not been cleared by the ICC for selection due to suspicions of involvement in match-fixing.
Pakistan's former Test captain left-handed batsman Salman Butt along with pacers Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif are facing suspension from all formats of cricket, imposed by the ICC. The trio is accused of being involved in spot-fixing, where they took
money from a bookie named http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed and bowled deliberate no balls, while Butt slowed down the run rate during his batting. They are accused of doing this in a Test match against English team in England.
There are four more players who also have not been cleared by the ICC because the cricket’s governing body has doubts about their involvement also in corrupt practices in cricket. These include Shoaib Malik, Kamran Akmal, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Danish-Kaneria-c1314 and Rana Naved.
With the absence of these players and now the extension of the final date to submit the World Cup probables, things are looking good for Yousuf and Tanvir. The two were not selected for the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 tour because of fitness issues, this also meant that
they would not be considered for the World Cup because it was hoped that the PCB would need to announce the thirty probables this month on the 19th. Now the ICC has given 5th January as the final date to the PCB to announce their 30 man
squad which gives enough time to Yousuf and Tanvir to improve their fitness and come in front of the selectors with better prospects of getting their names in the national squad.
However, the chairman selection team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 has made it clear that only those players who are super fit will be considered for the World Cup because the team will not be going into this tournament with players who could become a liability later.
A selector said, “We want to select the best team and we will look for every option including Tanvir and Yousuf. The duo would be under the scanner and may go through a fitness test before the squad selection.”
