World Cup title would be team’s greatest gift to Sachin Tendulkar – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028
Indian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 has termed the winning of the 2011 World Cup by the Indian side to be the ‘greatest gift’ for cricket’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar.
The batting maestro is most probably going to appear in the mega event for the last time this year. Tendulkar, who is the current highest run-scorer in both the Test and ODI format of the game, has never won the World Cup since
making his debut in International cricket.
“We want him to play maybe one or two more like every Indian but practically speaking you know it would be his last World Cup. So that can be the biggest gift from the team to him. We will try to give it our best shot and make
it the best World Cup," said Dhoni.
Sachin first represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. Since then, he has featured in every World Cup till date. This will be the sixth time for him to play for India in cricket’s most major tournament.
In the 2003 World Cup, he was the top scorer when India reached the final but were prevented from lifting the World Cup trophy by Australia.
Dhoni and the rest of the team want to win this World Cup as a farewell present for cricket’s most prolific batsman.
Most players from Sachin’s era have already retired from international cricket; his fellow teammate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321 Dravid was also ignored by selectors for the World Cup. This is an indication that he will be featuring in the World Cup
for the last time this year.
Luckily for him, his national team looks to be in great form. India hasn’t looked this strong for nearly a decade.
India’s legendary all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234 has also favoured Dhoni’s men to win the World Cup. He said, “The Indian team for the World Cup is the strongest batting line-up we have ever seen in world cricket. It looks a balanced team
though the bowling is a bit weak. So if they can play to their abilities they can emerge world champions.”
In an interview last week, India’s hard-hitting batsman Suresh Raina also reiterated that India would be tough to beat in the World Cup. According to the young batsman, India at the moment have the best coach (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527), best
skipper (Mahendra Singh Dhoni) and the best batsman in the world (Sachin Tendulkar).
The Indian players look in high spirits and there is no doubt that the players will try to give their best performance in order to win the World Cup and become the first nation to win the mega event at home.
