For years I watch with interest and wondered!!! Can GM food really able to cop with the ever increasing population worldwide???

A year ago, I carry out some personal research (admit limited and restricted research), if my understanding were right, there were no exponential lost or increase in agriculture land worldwide.

Then WHY world food prices keeping going up and lately head-line main news???

Were there any political connotations?

Regards

Bill

  1. As a generality, population growth will result in higher costs for food.  Technology may be able to increase the efficiency at which food is produced, but no technology can keep everybody fed if the population continues to grow.

Yes, we may be able to feed 9 billion people or 12 billion people, but without a limit to population growth, the number of mouths to feed will be 50 billion and then 100 billion and then 500 billion.

The fundamental solution to many of the world's problems is clearly birth control, not unhumane death.

  2. No direct link between pop inc and food shortage/price increase. This phenomena has only arisen over the last 3/4 years during which time demographic pop rise is not significant.

What HAS happened, say the experts (me) is that climate change has adversely and disastrously affected grain harvests. Also emerging industrial countries like India and China are able to purchase/commandeer a larger proportion of the grain market, driving up prices. Some of these supplier countries are incapable/unwilling to invest the capital from this to feed down to their impoverished peasants.

    Result?..starvation..riots..war.
