World Football News: Delph to return soon for Villa as Van Persie buoyant on return to fitness
Aston Villa’s young midfielder, Fabian Delph, the U-21 English international is on course to return to action in January after it was confirmed that he is successfully recovering from his ligament injury which he sustained in late April
of 2010. Villa’s manager, Gerard Houllier will welcome back the midfielder with open arms as Stilian Petrov’s injury has left the Birmingham club short of first choice midfielders. However, Delph will have to wait for his first team chance as the likes of
Hogg and Bannan have been doing well for Villa in the central midfield department.
Aston Villa’s assistant manager, Gary McAllister spoke about Fabian’s recovery process as he said, "Fabian is doing fantastically well. He's gone over to the United States to break his rehab up and he's done some training with a specialist
over there just to break up the routine. It's been a long time out for Fabian and he's having five or six days over there and then he will be back. Fingers crossed, he'll be here (ready) in January."
Villa’s midfielder moved to his current club in 2008 from Leeds United but he has not seen a lot of first team football. Under Martin O’Neill, Villa’s previous manager, Delph was only limited to several first team appearances. Gary McAllister
added to his remarks about Fabian, as he said, "He is a talented boy, no doubt about that, and honest player and someone I admire. He loves to play and he loves training. He's a bit frustrated at the moment but he is getting closer. This (break) has been a
good chance for him to reflect and have a good look at the Premier League."
On the other hand, Arsenal’s striker Robin Van Persie, who has had his fair amount of injuries since the 2010 World Cup as well, played for Netherlands in their latest friendly match against Turkey, a match that the Dutch team won by a
singular goal. Van Persie made his come back to first team action for his national side on Wednesday night. Previously, Robin was out with an ankle injury.
Not only that, the Arsenal striker was involved in the build up by Holland’s only goal of the match as he played the pass which resulted in a clear goal scoring chance for Huntelaar. Van Persie spoke about his return to action as he said,
"It's very nice to be back. I see it as a win-win situation. I am pleased that the Dutch coach is happy and that the coach of Arsenal is also happy. It all went well. I was not troubled by the match, everything went according to plan. The training that I've
had with the Dutch team, I have not had at Arsenal."
Van Persie’s return was another positive for the World Cup finalists but the match saw the Dutch central defender, Joris Mathijsen sustain an ankle injury. Van Marwijk, the Dutch coach spoke to the press after the match as he said, “We
haven't had much luck lately," He went onto elaborate on Joris’s ankle injury as he stated, "We know there is damage to the ankle ligaments. The amount of damage is still unknown."
