World Football News: England’s 2018 bid awaiting boost
England’s 2018 World Cup bid has been under threat after the Sunday Times’ report over the past one month but now the bid is set to undergo a huge boost as FIFA will unveil the evaluation reports on the respective bids that have come under
way. Preliminary news paper reports suggest that the bid is set to take a huge confidence boost as it has been praised in most parts of the anticipated evaluation reports that are scheduled to be released on Wednesday.
England’s only weak mark in their bid is seen as the contracted hotel system in the country. The other bids from Spain/Portugal as well as from Russia have their fall backs as well. The Russian bid is thought to be a weak one due to the
lack of transport facilities in the country in comparison to other bids. The Iberian bid from Spain/Portugal has its own weak points as well as both the countries have a weak security and safety system.
On the other hand, Qatar has made a bid for the 2022 World Cup along with the likes of U.S.A, South Korea/Japan. The problem with Qatar’s bid is thought to be related to the climatic conditions in the country, as the World Cup is usually
held in the summers, Qatar will provide quite an inhospitable environment for football. However, they are willing to tackle the issue in question with expensive air conditioning inside the stadiums as well.
Chuck Blazer, member of FIFA’s executive committee has already said that such an effort would not be practical. He spoke to the media as he remarked, "You can air-condition a stadium, but I don't see how you can air-condition an entire
country." Blazer is a U.S national however, a country which is competing alongside Qatar for the rights to host the 2022 World Cup.
Qatar’s chief executive for their World Cup bid, Hassan Al Thawadi spoke to the media as he said, "Our enthusiasm for the sport rivals any other country on the planet. The weather posed many concerns but we acknowledged the issue and we
continue to overcome this. The benefits of our bid have won over many sceptics."
FIFA has another issue on their hands which could jeopardize the integrity of their executive committee, an issue which will be focused upon in the coming week as some of the executive committee members have been accused of corruption
and bribery. Bribery in order to favour one bid over the other. Nigeria's Amos Adamu and Tahiti's Reynald Temarii have already been suspended from the executive committee and the FIFA ethics committee will soon take a decision on the future of the above mentioned
members in question.
