World Football News: Portugal vs. Spain – Full Time Report (Part 2)
The Spanish time changed a lot of things round and almost the whole team was replaced as the match moved on. The most aggressive player on the field Xabi Alonso was replaced by the Spanish striker Fernando Llorente to change the cause
of the game up front while Andres Iniesta was taken off for Santiago Cazorla Gonzales.
Even though the World Champions were having most of the ball during the second half, the Portuguese were having fun while counter attacking as the tactic was working well against the World Champions and the home side were already two goals
up while playing the same way.
The former Barcelona man Cesc Fabregas got a wonderful opportunity on goal which he shot wide. It was a pin point cross from David Silva that found the head of Fernando Llorente who headed it back towards Fabregas. The Arsenal captain
shot the ball on the volley and could not find the target as another chance was wasted by the World Champions.
The scorer of first goal for the Portuguese side Carlos Martins was taken off for Manuel Fernandes as the Portuguese midfielder looked to be tired. It was clearly seen how the Spaniards were dominating the game even though they were two
goals down. However, the question was whether La Roja could get back into the game with a crowd that was supporting the other side.
Soon, the Spanish side found themselves another goal down as the Portuguese kept on dominating the game on their home soil. This time the architect was Luis Nani as he made up for his mistake in the first half. The Portuguese winger made
a wonderful run in the 18 yard box and passed the ball onto Helder Postiga. The Portuguese striker made no mistake while being right in front of goal and shot the ball into the net to score his second goal of the game and third for his team during the match.
Carles Puyol was taken off for Alvaro Arbeloa who took his position as a right back and Sergio Ramos changed his position and became a centre back for the Spanish side. On the other hand the Portuguese side substituted the two time goal
scorer during the game Helder Postiga for Hugo Almeida the scorer of the hat trick during the FIFA World Cup 2010.
For the last fifteen minutes, the Spanish side kept on trying on goal but the Portuguese defence was just too strong for them. Even with Eduardo gone from between the two poles, the Spanish side just couldn’t breakthrough even though they
were playing great players up front. Strikers like Fernando Llorente and Fernando Torres were deployed up front with David Silva on the wings and Cesc Fabregas on the midfield. With such big names it was hard to believe that most of the first team was missing
but still the Portuguese were ones who outplayed the champions with their counter attacking football and they lead the game with three goals.
With such a great in-form Portuguese side, there was definitely going to be some last minute action and it came during the 92ndminute of the game. It was a wonderful passing movement by the Portuguese side which involved all
the midfielders and a wonderful ball from Paulo Machodo who replaced Nani on the pitch, found Almeida up front and even with Iker Casillas moving forward, the Portuguese striker made no mistake in finishing the ball in the net as the Portuguese side raised
their hands in victory as the game ended 4-0 for the home side.
The game was simply dominated by the Portuguese side and the Spaniards simply had no chance as Cristiano Ronaldo’s team took advantage of the home ground and home crowd to defeat the Champions of the World.
