World Football News: Welsh Brian Flynn Claims Bale Is As Good As Messi
Brian Flynn, the Wales caretaker manager said while speaking to reporters that he felt that Tottenham player Gareth Bale could be as good as Barcelona star Lionel Messi. Flynn has been coaching Gareth Bale since he was 15-years-old and
has seen him develop and progress at an exceptional rate.
The prodigal Welsh player, Bale who is 21-year-old at the moment has evolved into one of the most promising and thrilling players in the world. His demand has increased a lot and recent reports are suggesting that all major European clubs
are willing to sign him. He started off as a left back for the London club but is emerging as one of the best left flank players in the English Premier League.
Bale came under the spotlight after his impressive performances against Inter Milan in the Champions League, which saw the Spurs beating the Italian side on aggregate. He has continued his good form domestically and has become one of Harry
Redknapp’s best players.
The Welsh international was outstanding against London rivals Arsenal last weekend, he was essential in their comeback and eventual victory. The gunners had a 2-0 lead but Bale led the comeback by scoring the first goal and Spurs finished
the match winners with a 3-2 score line.
Flynn is next in line to succeed the Wales manager John Toshack, and on Bale he commented while speaking to reporters, “I have known Gareth's ability from such a young age in many ways it doesn't surprise me the
level he is reaching now.”
He added, “If you look at all the ingredients needed to be a top player, he is up there in a lot of the brackets. I judge players in three key areas: attitude, intelligence and ability where he excels in them all.
There are a lot of players who are quick but his left-foot is as good as anyone.”
He continued, “Comparisons with Messi wouldn't faze him a little bit. He wouldn't be worried by that sort of adulation because of his intelligence as he can handle being a big star. Time will show. He is 21-years-old.
Messi is 23 and in two years time we could be saying yes Gareth is at that level.”
