As the summer transfer window is drawing closer, the speculation for certain players to move from one club to another is growing even more intense. The price tags of the professional footballers are soaring high with an ever-increasing rate every season.
Indeed, the history of the transfer market is marked with a number of expensive transfer dealings.
This article throws light at the successes and failures of thirteen of the most expensive transfer contracts in the football arena. Let the countdown begin.
13. Pavel Nedved
Pavel Nedvěd is a former professional football player from Cheb, Czechoslovakia. The retired player is regarded as one of the most divine players to have ever stepped in the European game. Nedvěd has served many prestigious clubs including Dukla Prague,
Sparta Prague, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Czech-Republic-c2882 national football team. The versatile player was deployed as a left-winger and attacking mid-fielder on the pitch.
Nedved started his professional football career in 1991 with Dukla Prague, he was deployed as a left-winger and then as an attacking mid-fielder.
He managed to step onto the football field just 19 times for is first club and score three goals before getting transferred to Sparta Prague in 1993.
He spent the next three years with the Spartans before moving to Lazio in 1996 but before he did that he made 98 appearances and netted 23 goals.
With Lazio he made 138 appearances while scoring 33 goals. The Czechoslovakia international then made his last move of his professional football career in 2001 and moved to the Lady Killers to make 244 appearances for Juventus while netting just 51 goals
in the eight years serving them.
During his career as a professional footballer, Nedvěd won over a myriad number of accolades with Juventus and Lazio side. In 2001, the Czech Furia Ceca signed a transfer contract with the Juventus side from Lazio – a deal worth £30.7 million. This set record
as one of the most expensive transfers in the soccer history. The 38-year-old retired after the 2008-09 season.

In 2008, Berbatov was signed by Manchester United who paid £30.75 million to Tottenham Hotspur for the spectacular player. The 30-year-old has truly justified his price tag, becoming an all-time leading goal scorer of the English side. He has so far made

in the European club history, with a sum of 67 goals to date. Indeed, his career is adorned with a plethora of individual accolades, including the 2004 Ballon d'Or award and the 2003 UEFA Champions League.
