World Golf Courses: A reflection of Ireland’s natural beauty and lush green landscape
Republic of Ireland is probably the luckiest place – if Scottish do not have an objection to this – that is blessed with the lush green natural landscape best suited for the game of golf. For example, attracting and promoting golf in the countries like India
is rather an expensive option.
The rough, dried and hard soil needs many times extra investment and work from preparation and designing of the landscape to bow, grow and maintain green surface on it. This is not a requirement in the countries like Ireland. They just have to select an
open free landscape, which is cover with natural grass throughout the year.
The maximum investment need is in the landscape designing and maintenance, and the cost of the safekeeping is so low that even a small investor can afford to develop and maintain a golf course. This fact is reflective in the number of golf courses spread
throughout the country, and they are second to none as far as quality of the conditions, availability of facilities and services and acceptability of the environment is concerned.
Above all, the Irish hospitability makes the local golf tournament organisers the best hosts world over. From Tiger Woods to Vijay Singh, golf players from world over have spoken high of depth of the Irish culture, friendly attitude of local people and the
fine quality of services and hospitability that local hosts provide to the golf players from world over. The game of golf was popular in Ireland even before emergence of the local star Graeme McDowell on the Horizon.
Thanks to the popularity of Tiger Woods that the golf is commoditised to be known at the grass root level. This has helped Ireland to win consistent opportunities to show how rich are their golf courses in the natural beauty. This has also helped the country
promote its courses as the best suited host places for some of the major golf events, attracting players as far as China to enjoy playing the game at the true natural courses. Not the artificially maintained courses. This is the reason that Tiger Woods and
some other notable golfers have often endorsed the local golf courses as the best host-spots of the game.
As a matter of fact, many of them including Woods have said to be enjoying playing golf in Ireland more than in any other country. Unfortunately, the country has not produced a golf star of Woods calibre but the question is which has done it so far. Almost
all the analysts agree that it was down to the general ignorance and lack of awareness to the game of golf in the past that failed the countries like Ireland to exploit their local infrastructure to build a strong players base.
The future, however, is certainly to bear a witness to the emergence of golf stars from Ireland. The players like McDowell have already shown great potential and promise, inspiring young Irish golf players to aim higher. This has resulted in more frequent
competitions locally held in the country, which also wins regular opportunities to host major international tournaments.
So, all this has set the tone of promising golf future in the country, and the time is not very far when a Tiger Woods emerges from Ireland. Even Tiger Woods has no reason to disagree with the argument that golf’s future will depend on the Irish players.
