World Golf Hall of Fame inductee Peter Alliss takes a dig at Tiger Woods
Peter Alliss, one of the renowned English golfers of the past, was recently nominated for the World Golf Hall of Fame (WGHOF), took a jibe at the former World number one Tiger Woods, severely criticising his attempt to undergo a swing change under the guidance
of his current swing coach Sean Foley.
Alliss said, “I do not understand the thinking of Tiger Woods. I think his golfing brain, for some reason or other, is completely addled”.
He said pointing towards his groin while talking to the media at the St. Johns County Convention Center:
“Perhaps the good part of his brain for a period drained from here, down to here”.
The “Golden Bear” of the sport, Jack Nicklaus, however, has been less critical of Woods’ and has always supported him in his bid to surpass Nicklaus’ record of 18-major wins.
Winner of 23 professional titles in his grizzled career, Alliss is better known as a famous golf commentator and has spent considerable period of his time, working for the high profile sports channels and radio.
Alliss was bidding farewell to the sport when the European Tour was being established in the year 1972 and has since been known as the witty commentator of the sport.
He is often touted as the "Voice of (British) Golf" after the demise of Henry Longhurst.
He further added, “He was Gulliver in the land of Lilliputians. I’m not saying I’m a great teaching guru, but I’d love to have about a half an hour [with Woods]. If he couldn’t be put right in an hour, I’d go home and stick my head in a bucket of ice water,
because it’s so simple. You stand and you swing”.
Alliss also recalled an incident when he was standing behind the ropes along Arnold Palmer while Woods was putting on the green and he asked Nicklaus why Woods was being told how to chip and putt.
Alliss said Palmer had no answer for the same.
Woods won the Arnold palmer Invitational last month and was brimming with confidence heading into the Masters.
He was hoping to bag the title for the fifth time in his career but suffered a colossal defeat to finish for joint 40th.
