Question:

World History SAT Subject Test raw score conversion to the scale score?

Just recently I took the World History SAT Subject test, and I have a hunch on what my raw score is. (The total number of questions was 95)

Correct me if I'm wrong about what I think my raw score is About 78 (at the highest) to 73 (at the lowest) Explination below

I omitted 16-17 question (O.O) because I seriously did not know the answer so, I'm guessing IF I got the rest of the questions right my highest raw score would be ~78. And I think the penalty for wrong answers are .25, so for my benefit I'm guessing I got 20 extra questions wrong at the most. That would mean that the lowest I could get would be 73 (0.25*20=5, so 78-5=73, Right?)

ACTUAL QUESTION:

Then, how would my raw score convert to the 200-800 score, if the raw score is ~78-73?

Also please, tell me if I did the calculations correctly~

  1. Sorry to inform you, but your math is completely off. Assuming you omitted 17 questions and got everything right that means u have a 78 raw score. If you convert that on a 200-800 scale, thats about 790-800 depending on the curve.

The problem with your calculations arise with your lowest possible score. You want to use the example of 17 omits and 20 incorrect so I'll show you the real calculations:

If you omit 17 and get 20 wrong, then you do 95-(17+20) to get the total number of questions right. That becomes 95- 37, which is a 58.

The next step is to find the penalty for incorrect responses. For that calculation you do 20*.25. That would be a 5.

Once you have found your penalty, you have to deduct it from your number of correct questions in order to get your raw score. So for this step you do 58- 5 and get a 53 raw score.

This 53 raw score would be the worst you can do assuming you omitted 17 and got exactly 20 questions wrong. This 53 would convert to about a 650-660 depending on the curve.

That means that on the World History SAT Subject test your score will most likely be anywhere from a 650 to a 800. That is actually pretty decent since you have a good chance of getting a score above 700 to even an 800. Worst comes to worst you can always retake the test. My advice would be not to cancel the scores and to just put the test out of mind until the 26th when the results are out. Glad to help.

Oh an by the way, another problem in your calculations was that you penalized omitted questions as well by multiplying by .25. The good news with that is that there is no penalty for omitting a question.

  2. hey I took the World History test today as well, and I think about the same as you. All of the calculations are correct, and I have the College Board SAT II book with a conversion table for the test, and it says that a 73 is about a 770 and a 78 is an 800. WOAH that's an amazing curve. So if we did get in that range, that is pretty amazing. Good Luck, I hope you did well =)

Hey, stop worrying, I am sure you did fine! Yeah, I kinda forgot about the subtracting part of the score lolz. Well according to the book, it says that a 73 is a 770, but I am not sure what the curve is like this year. In order to get a 610, you would have to get a raw score of 45, which is almost half of the test wrong! Honestly, I think you did fine if you only got 17 wrong. PLEASE DO NOT CANCEL. I am not canceling mine - we are going to do fine. We should share our scores when we get them =). Any thing else u want to talk about? You can message me if u want.
