World Junior Championships: Carolina Marin ousts Romina Gabdullina in Women’s Singles quarter-final
Spain’s Carolina Marin has powered her way into Women’s Singles semi-final as she has ousted Russia’s Romina Gabdullina in the quarter-final showdown of the 2011 World Junior Championships, in Chinese Taipei, on Friday, November 4.
Carolina proved that she is ready to take bigger challenges as she played terrific badminton against the Russian opponent and finished the match in straight games by taking just 37 minutes in the court. Romina had no answer to the aggression and perfection
of her higher ranked opponent and lost the match without putting up an impact.
The Spanish lady, who is the second seed in the Women’s Singles draw of the event, lived up to the expectations, as she played remarkable game to reach at the top-four stage. She won the first game with a terrific margin by playing on the highest level.
She continued her peerless performance in the second set and bagged it with a decent score on the board.
The opening set was not that tough for the Spanish lady as she progressed with a wonderful face without facing any considerable resistance from her challenger. The Russian failed to play fast game as she lost her control over the bird. The impressive game
plan of Carolina helped her to establish a superb lead until the break.
After the interval, the second seed continued her killing run in the match as she stretched her lead by playing at her best. Romina executed many unforced errors and failed to stop the aggressive run of her rival. The Spanish took the first game with an
inspiring score of 21-14.
In the second set of the game, Romina played an attacking game in the opening points and remained close to her opponent in the opening half of the game. Until the break, the Spanish was just ahead of the Russian opponent.
After the break, Carolina geared up her speed at the net and remained successful in putting up pressure on her opponent. The wonderful run of the Spanish lady helped her to take the second game with a decent score of 21-17. The overall margin of this quarter-final
battle was 21-14 and 21-17.
In the semi-final, Carolina will take on Purwaningtyas Elyzabeth of Indonesia, who defeated Japan’s Yuki Fukushima in the other quarter-final contest.
