World Ladies Championship: Liu Yi Chen plays debut event on the LET
Liu Yi Chen appeared to be in high spirits when she set foot on the course of Mission Hills to play the inaugural World Ladies Championship at Hainan Island, China.
By participating in the event, Liu became the second player to receive the honour of Faldo Series Asia girl’s champion.
World Ladies Championship is the first LET (Ladies European Tour) event in China, and Liu, who hails from Taipei, was more than thrilled to start her journey in China.
Speaking of her experience to make it to the LET event, Liu said that she is thankful to Nick Faldo, who provided her an opportunity to make it to the big tour.
It is worth mentioning that the current world number one Yani Tseng also did what Liu has to do to make her debut on the LET.
The 19-year-old star expressed that she was glad that she is treading in the footsteps of Yani Tseng.
Analysts have predicted that Liu may make a name for herself if she stays focused in the upcoming events.
Speaking to a well-known news service, Liu said that she could not make it happen without the efforts of LET professionals and, particularly, Sir Nick Faldo.
“I’m grateful to Sir Nick for setting up this opportunity,” said Liu in her statement. “My Faldo Series victories in Europe and Asia have opened many doors for me and this is a great chance to test myself against some of the world’s top women golfers”.
Liu was impressive in her Faldo series Europe girl’s event, she grabbed the title at Lough Erne Resort, Northern Ireland, in the 2010 season.
Nick Faldo Series has been beneficial for rising players. The Series was launched in 1996 and has expanded its footprints across the world.
Now, with over 27 countries on its roster, Faldo Series is catering to 7000 players in an attempt to give them a chance to rise to the bigger level.
Although Liu could not grab the spotlight in World Ladies Championship, she gained enough confidence to play among more competent players.
She carded a decent score in the first round. A 70 score helped her go in the second with plenty of confidence. She carded 73 and 78 in the last two rounds, respectively.
